Self Introduction

Hello! This is my first post on this blog, so I think I might introduce myself.

My name is Hasna Mardhiah, and people usually call me Hasna. I've turned 18 this year (last March) and have finished high school last year. I have been accepted at Faculty of Medicine, Gadjah Mada University, being offered the Bachelor of Medicine degree. Last year I failed to get any places at university, so I took the intensive university-preparation program for a year, and thank God now I finally made it into medical school.

Speaking of interests, I am the type of person whose interest doesn't have very much variations. I am generally interested in natural science, especially physics and astronomy, in fact, I had considered to enrol to those subjects this year, but something at the back of my mind kinda hold it back, though I don't really know what it is. I really enjoy discussing about particle physics, the quantum world, where many laws of everyday-physics are violated (not really, but they actually act differently from that which is observable by our naked eyes). But there is a problem here, I'm actually not very good and knowledgeable about these things, and I surely need a friend to talk and discuss about this matter, well, more like teaching me about it, because I got all information about this only through the medium of books and web sites. There's no person I can come to to ask about things I don't understand. So if you happen to have the knowledge of particle physics and are keen to discuss it, I'll be glad to be your friend.

As of astronomy, my interest of it began some times ago, while reading a book called Miracles of the Quran, written by Caner Taslaman. It explains a bit about pulsars, which is a rotating neutron star that emits a beam of electromagnetic radiation, which can only be observed when the beam is pointing towards the earth, and the beam emission is responsible for the pulsar's pulsating appearance. At some point the writer pointed out that such magnificent event is happening somewhere in the universe, yet we are here living our daily lives, unaware of such event. Somehow, this made me pondering over the subject over and over again. I started a self research on black holes and other astronomical phenomenon that are amazing and comparing it to the ignorance of most of the people. Somehow it bothers me :-/

When it comes to social science, I can say that I am clueless about it. I had a great mark on economy in junior high, but when it came to 10th sociology, I gave up. I just feel that it is too hard for me to understand and so it might be a bad idea if I would have to keep up with the subject for the rest of my school-life. I just don't feel like I belong there, in social science field,  I'm just not interested, it's as simple.

Let's now talk about entertainment. I like watching films some times, but not all films really. Some are just boring or I just can't understand the story. My favourite films are the Harry Potter Movies, they are great, and most of my favourite actor and actresses are from the film (go team Emma!). I also like The Chronicles of Narnia and some Disney movies. For TV shows, I LOVE Sherlock (created by BBC) it's just awesome you should check it out, Stargate, Top Gear, Wonders of the Universe by Prof. Brian Cox, Don't Die Young by Prof. Alice Roberts, well, almost everything in BBC, and The Big Bang Theory (though some times it could get a bit dirty). For music, I am a fan of Westlife (they were disbanded some times ago, which does make me a bit sad), a bit of Muse. I don't really know much about music, and some how I'm not so keen to try something new so I just stick to the familiar music that suits me well. Okay, maybe some other name, Gareth Gates, Clay Aiken, The Corrs. I enjoy listening to podcasts and radio dramas, especially the podcast from The Naked Scientists and The Royal Society.

If you ask me about book, I do love books. My favorite are the Harry Potter series, The Chronicles of Narnia series, the series of The Immortal Nicolas Flamel (by Michael Scott), and the books I'm currently reading: Miracles of the Quran, On Becoming an Alchemist, and Star Trek. I tend to buy many books when I visit the book shop or attend a book fair, but I haven't got time to read them all, and even some of them are still very neatly wrapped.

So I think that's quite enough for an introduction, as you may already gather, I ramble a lot. I'm so sorry if even this introduction feels like an essay, which it has started to look like. It's been very late here in my region of time, and I think I'm going to sleep.

Thanks for all, and goodbye!
